Hallo vogelvrienden . graag zou ik willen weten of er uiterlijke verschillen zijn tussen man of pop van dewitkuifgaailijster , zo ja welke? Ook vraag ik me af of er nog wel witkuiven aan zijn te komen in nederland ? En bij wie dan wel, heb de moed al bijna opgegeven. Met vriendelijke groeten Jos strik .

Hallo,

Ik heb net een koppel witkuifgaaien kunnen aanschaffen. De man komt voort uit belgische nakweek 2007. De pop is afkomstig uit duitse nakweek 2007.

Hetgeen ik tot nu toe al heb kunnen vaststellen is dat de pop een ander geluid maakt dan de man. Beiden "zingen" (of eerder roepen) maar de zang van de man heeft meer variatie. Terwijl ze roepen "fladderen" ze beiden met de vleugels.

Verder zijn de nagels (allemaal) van de man zwart, deze van de pop zijn allemaal meer hoornkleurig. Ik weet niet of dit een geslachtsonderscheid is maar bv. bij de aymara parkiet is er een dergelijk geslachtsonderscheid. De ene heeft bleke poten, de andere heeft een lichtere pootkleur.

Weet iemand misschien meer?

It would be strange (but not impossible) if the leg and claw colour were indicators of sex because no-one has noticed it before you. The species has been imported in great numbers, but no-one noticed this difference.
I think that the difference may be due to age.

Both birds were bred this year. Maybe the claws of the female will grow darker in the future.

It may be possible. It may be true for only your birds. Many times I have been told that eye colour is linked to sex in many birds (glansspreuwen, dolksteek duiven), but it is almost always random - the colour difference happens in both sexes.

What to say about these birds.
They really are one of my favourites not particularly because they are beautiful but I think it's their personality that appeals to me.
Every time I enter the garden and they notice me, the welcome me with their loud joyful cheers.
They are also the leaders of the gang because when they start also the rest follows.
O.K. they are not compatible in a city environment due their loudness but if you have space around your house they are a real treasure.
Male and female are alike my male is a bit larger then the female and sings louder and more vivid as the female.
But only feathers and D.N.A. can make you be sure.
Did you know there are two kinds off witkuifen one is the Garrulax leucolophus the other one is the Garrulax bicolor from Sumatra
a very rare species but when you visit Henk Dietz birdparc there you can see theme.
